SWOT Analysis is something you should be doing quarterly.
I’m going to run you through how to effectively use SWOT for root cause analysis.
Your typical person uses a SWOT as something from a 30,000 ft level.
I encourage you to utilize this activity to also dive deeper into the subjects listed under each category.
If you’re new to the SWOT analysis then here’s your ticket.
Strengths
Weaknesses
Opportunities
Threats
Having as many key components listed in each category is critical. Don’t be that person who puts three things in each section and calls it a day.
That’s not helping you.
You need to ask yourself the question “Why” x5 for each. Create these as bullet points under each.
That gets you from 30,000 to ground level pretty quickly and shows you what work really needs to be done.
If you are running a team this is a perfect quarterly initiative to gain vital feedback and create accountability.
Each member is going to know where they’re strong and where they can pick up the pace.
When it comes to your strength & weaknesses you need to understand that a strength can be a weakness.
Opportunities can be around the markets but also investing into the business and yourself.
Remember what I said about the key to Winning in one of my earlier writings on
Here it is again…
Winning comes patience, discipline, street education, formal education, and hard ass work.
Part of that hard ass work needs to be looking at your business objectively and figuring out what your proud of, where you need work, and what fights you may have in front of you.
Because life is a battle. The more you can be prepared to win the more dangerous you become.
“Because winning is more fun, than fun is” – Ed Mylet
Since you’re reading this I already know you think the same thing.
Do your SWOT quarterly, set your initiatives, and then go execute.
